Whitefly

| Whiteflies are more common inside enclosed areas such as greenhouses but they can also be found outside. The adults look like tiny little white flies and they feed on healthy plants. These adults lay eggs that hatch into very small flat looking white scales attached to the bottom sides of leaves. These scales suck the sap from plants and transmit plant viruses that can kill your plants. The same as Aphids, Whiteflies coat plants with honeydew that molds (fungus) and hinders plant photosynthesis. |

| 1 - The same as mites, Whiteflies have a very fast lifecycle. It is difficult to kill all stages of the Whitefly lifecycle with one chemical application. 2 - Whiteflies, adults and scale, can be easily squished with your fingers. 3 - Yellow sticky traps can help to catch the adults. 4 - Safer Soap works well for some gardeners but must be used 1-2 times a week, over a long period, in order to completely dislodge these insects. |
