Classification Key for the Genus Datura

The following pages will aid in identifying datura species. It is based primarily upon the chart
appearing on p. 111 of Engelstrompeten, which, itself, is based on the work of Hammer,
Romeike, and Tittel (Kulturpflanze 31: 13-75, 1983). Click on the text that best describes
your plant until you find a match. Where possible, I have included photos to aid in the
identification process.

Plants grown in my own garden were used for these images. As such, the photos are my
property. Feel free to use them for noncommercial purposes, crediting me as the author or
photographer. For commercial purposes, please contact me via email for terms of use.

If you disagree with any of the taxonomic assignments I have made, please send me an email.
Datura classification is complex and critical discussions help to clarify it.
I welcome your comments!
